Hi guys!
When I play every single game, I have always one question in my mind and it sound like "Does that game has any mods?". Maybe it's stupid, cause, you know, developers really tried to do that game and I should be thankful to them. However, I know one thing, something like universal rule – players almost always have more ideas than creators.
So, let’s start with some informations, like, what is mod. Maybe you will be surprised, but I know gamers, which don’t know that. In most simple way, mod is content to the game, that everyone can do. If we know, how to program something, we can change everything in game, add new things, delete some mechanics or just upgrade graphic of items. Sounds simple and can be very interesting.
Many games have different mods, sometimes pretty normal, like adding just some hairstyles in “The Sims 4”, but sometimes mods can be really crazy, like “Pony Dragon Mod”, which change dragons in “Skyrim” into “My Little Pony” horses. Is that good? Yes and no at the same time.
(Yeah, some mods can be really funny)
Mods are good for some reasons. First of all, as I said before, developers can’t add something, that players really want. They have limited time, to make all graphics, program all features, and they also want to have some free time. Players make mods in their free time, at least for the most part, and they do it for fun. Second thing is that, developers can’t know exactly what players want to see in their games. But we know, so, if we can, we can add it on our own. It can also be new content, that no one even think about, but when we try it, it become our must-have. Mods can also sometimes just fix some bugs, that creators didn’t notice.
But, everything has it’s wrong side. Mods can sometimes modify to much, and change game in something, we don’t want to or add content that don’t fit well in whole game universe. Also, mods destabilize games and can make more bugs, lags (if your PC isn’t good enough) or even crash your game entirely and destroy your save files (I know from experience).
So, are mods good for games? If you know which mod is good, than yes. But, if you choose some random mods and start playing game, you may regret it in some point. Better check mods review, before install it. Also, for the first playthrough, out of respect for the developers, it’s better to start in vanilla game. That is what they want. That’s all, so...
Sayonara, and until next time!
