I choose you!

            Hi guys!

I am big fan of Pokemons... Well, maybe not as big as many people, but still, I really like this series of games. Anime is fine, but it has some kind of monotony, at least for me. I also like looking for new Pokemon ideas, like fake evolutions and Pokemons created by fans (this kind of Pokemons is called Fakemons). I want to make some kind of post series about Pokemon and I think that would be funny, especially posts about my ideas for villainous teams. Today, lets talk about which region is the best and which is the worst (at least in my opinion).

8. Generation VI – Kalos

This region is close to my heart, cause it’s first region I start nuzlocke (still unfinished, but I’m making progress) . So why it is the worst regions? First of all, it’s too easy, leaders and trainers are not a challenge, catching Pokemons in the wild also aren’t to powerful. Kalos didn’t give us many new Pokemons. Only one bug type line or literally two ground types, Diggersby and Zygarde and one of them is Legendary Pokemon… We don’t count Mega Evolutions, it’s another topic.

This games just have to little to offer players to be good. The only well done thing is mentioned earlier Mega Evolving mechanic. Some old Pokemons got new life, for example Pinsir, Lopunny and my lovely Aerodactyl.

7. Generation VII – Alola

Alola, based on Hawaii region, has some good and interesting aspects. It’s second generation that gave us less Pokemons than normally. It’s bad for me, but we get compensate in Regional Variants. This was good idea, giving old Pokemons new look and typing is something that should be in games from beginning. Not everywhere we have the same climate and for some species adaptability is very important even in real life. Gamefreak also gave us interesting designs of some Pokemons, like Bruxish and Passimian.

Z-Moves, the new mechanic, aren’t that bad, even if people don’t like them. Sometimes that moves can decide whether you win or lose. We can use them only once per battle, but they are very powerful.

Bad side? Ultra Beast which are important in plot. For me this “Pokemons” are just bunch of weird things, like Xurkitree which is just some wires or Kartana, just little origami creature.

6. Generation VIII – Galar

The newest region, at least for now. The best thing in it is upgrade for Regional Variants. Not only they give them better look, but also Regional Evolutions, which gave me hope for something good in the future. Also new Pokemon species are great. I love Toxtricity and Appletun, they are so cute. Legendary Pokemons are interesting and idea for “fusing” Calyrex and his horses are funny.

In my opinion Dynamaxing and Gigantamaxing in Galar is the worst thing in these games. What that mechanic really do? Just make them bigger for three turns, that’s all! For me it’s nothing impressing, just the illusion that we have more influence in the fight.

5. Generation IV – Sinnoh

Pretty good and solid region. I really like starters, especially Turtwig. They type combinations make them very versatile and have many possibilities. Also some Legendary Pokemons have interesting typings, like Ghost/Dragon Giratina and Fire/Steel Heatran. So what was wrong?

This region gave us many evolutions of older Pokemons, what was good, at least for some species. In my opinion, they made Sinnoh just for that – new evolutions. There was so little new species, especially before Platinum pokedex (Only starter and ponyta as a fire types in whole game? Not cool). Maybe story makes that games better and that’s why it get this position in ranking.

4. Generation I – Kanto

This region is the beginning of whole Pokemon universe so it’s kinda special. But being the first doesn’t mean the best. In Kanto we got many good Pokemons like Gyarados and Aerodactyl and then they gave us some… Well, we got living pokeball and mime and blond “Valkyrie” creatures and I think it is the best summary of pokedex. Maybe one thing more – ONLY ONE GHOST AND ONE DRAGON LINE!!!

To be fair, plot is not good or more precisely, Kanto games, especially originals and remakes in third generation almost don’t have any plot. Of course, we have some episodes with Team Rocket, but it’s nothing if we look at story and lore of Pokemons in later generations.

3. Generation II – Johto

Just expansion of Kanto region, but Gamefreak kept making the same mistakes. Seriously, this time, they made only single one Ghost type Pokemon, Misdreavus, and one dragon type, Kingdra, evolution of Horsea line. They also add some pre-evolutions and I like them, even if other Pokemon fans think these Pokemons are useless.

If we look at the plot, Johto is a little bit better than Kanto, but post game is weird. Like “You complete this game, so go to Kanto and beat all Leaders and Kanto protagonist”. Who thought that would be good idea? I don’t know, but it’s not enough, at least for me.

This region also gave us something great – Dark and Steel Pokemons. Dark type is in my Top 5 types and I always have at least one in my party, next to Grass and Ghost type.

2. Generation III – Hoenn

Hoenn, in my opinion, started great with starters – Treecko, Torchic and Mudkip. Pseudo-legendaries also are pretty descent. They gave us two of them and this was last generation, where we have non-dragon pseudo-legendary Pokemon. And, for f**k sake, finally we got more dragons and ghosts!

I love idea of giving us not one, but two villainous teams, Aqua and Magma, with different story, depending of version. They have opposite goals, one of them want to flood whole world, and the other one want to make more lands by destroying seas. This generation doesn’t have one thing...

1. Generation V – Unova

Snivy! This is my favorite Pokemon this is one of the reasons why I love this generation. But, what is truly most important reason is pokedex. This is one of tho generations, where we get only new Pokemons, without new evolutions and pre-evolutions or regional variants. It’s also last generation, where we get over 100 new Pokemons.

Maybe plot is not something so great, but Leaders are really good. There they started having normal jobs besides battles. Maybe they continued this only for Kalos, but still, it’s something that I like – more character in our NPCs.

That’s all I want to say today. What are you thinking about that list? What is your favorite generation? Let me know in the comments, but for now…

            Sayonara and until next time!
